The Problem:
The industry is full of horror stories of oriental rugs sent to a 'factory' that return months later discolored, shrunk, or worse, never return at all. Furthermore, the natural (vegetable) dyes used in real Persian rugs are extremely unstable (color bleeding). Cleaning with too high a pH will cause red or blue colors to bleed permanently into light patterns and fringes.
Persian rug cleaning and Oriental rug cleaning at home begin with a colour test. Hand-knotted rug cleaning stays in your home when that test allows it. Very fragile pieces, including some silk rugs or unstable dyes, may need a different method.

Our Approach (On Site)
Colorfastness Test
The most critical step. We test each color before any cleaning. The result decides the method: in-home wet cleaning, a more limited approach, or no wet cleaning if the dyes are too unstable. The test lowers the risk of bleeding; it does not remove that risk in every case.
Specialized Dry Vacuuming (Dusting)
Hand-knotted rugs have very tight knots that trap abrasive sand. We perform expert deep vacuuming to eliminate these dry particles that cut the base of the rug before applying anything wet.
Application of Color Stabilizers
If the test shows moderate instability, we may apply a stabilizing agent, then a pH-suited shampoo for wool or silk, by hand. If the colors remain too unstable, we do not proceed with wet cleaning.
Very Low Moisture Extraction
We adapt the water pressure and suction to the weave. Cleaning follows the direction of the pile in order to respect the shine and texture.
Fringe Adjustment and Floor Protection
Cotton fringes receive a separate, gentle treatment. The rug stays in place. Protections aim to limit moisture reaching the floor, depending on the floor type and the conditions in the room.
Adapted Equipment (Truck-Mount or Portable)
We primarily use our truck-mount units for maximum power. However, for high-rise condos or restricted access, we are equipped with high-performance professional portable machines. These units have nothing in common with rental machines: they guarantee an expert result, no matter your floor.
The truth about cleaning Oriental and Persian rugs
Many services offer to take a Persian, Turkish, Afghan or Chinese rug to a workshop for weeks. In-home cleaning is often possible in Montreal, Laval and on the South Shore, after the colour test. Not every piece is suited to it.
The main risk with a hand-knotted rug comes from vegetable dyes, which are often unstable. The test chooses the method: low moisture, a more limited approach, or no wet cleaning if silk or the dyes will not allow it. We clean with the pile, using pH-suited products, and you can see the work when it takes place in your home.
Oriental rug, wool or synthetic
A conventional wool rug, without an oriental pattern or hand knotting, is covered by wool rug cleaning. A nylon, polyester or olefin rug is covered by synthetic carpet and rug cleaning.

Why do you clean oriental rugs on-site instead of in a workshop?
When the colour test allows it, cleaning is done in your home: you see the products used and the rug does not leave the house. This is not possible for every piece. An unfavorable test can lead to a more limited method, or to postponing wet cleaning.
Are the colors of my Persian rug at risk of bleeding?
The risk exists if the method is unsuitable, especially with overly alkaline products or water that is too hot on vegetable dyes. We test dye fastness first. Depending on the result, we adapt the method, limit it, or skip wet cleaning. The test lowers the risk; it does not remove it in every case.
My oriental rug is hand-knotted, will your big machines damage it?
We do not use aggressive rotary brushes on hand-knotted rugs. Our technicians use manual tools and clean in the direction of the pile in order to limit the risk of damaging the knots or reversing the texture.
Do you clean rugs that contain silk?
Not always. Silk loses strength when wet. Some silk pieces, or rugs with unstable dyes, are not suited to in-home wet cleaning. When the test allows it, we use a very low-moisture method and watched drying, including on rugs that combine wool and silk.
How do you clean the white fringes of my rug?
The fringes are an extension of the rug's foundation, usually cotton, and they are not treated like the wool in the center. We use a cotton-suited product and a soft hand brush to ease greying and limit fraying.
Will you damage my hardwood floor underneath the rug during the intervention?
We limit moisture during extraction and avoid soaking the backing. Depending on the floor — hardwood, engineered or another type — and the conditions in the room, these precautions aim to reduce water reaching the floor. They do not guarantee the floor in every situation.
